A. No less than 8 hours. Go to bed a few hours before you usually would, have a glass of milk, read a boring book, watch a boring movie, listen to boring music. Throughout the day make sure you wear yourself out so you're exhausted by afternoon and you'll be happy to go to bed earlier. Don't stay up on the internet all night - the internet will ALWAYS stimulate your mind. As for waking up in the morning set an alarm clock on the other side of the room so you make yourself get up, get your parents to stand you up out of bed and away from it so you dont go back to it. At 13 the last thing you need is for your body to burn out so you need 8hours + of sleep. Sleeping in 4 hour intervals helped me when i was younger i would sleep from 10pm ne… [cont.]

How to sleep when you took a nap earlier?
Q. I like to sleep at 8pm - 11pm and wake up at 6am - 9am but one of those days I took a nap and messed up my sleeping schedule. Now I sleep around 4am - 6am and wake up around 1pm - 3pm. There are two solutions: Go to sleep now somehow or stay up until 3pm - 5pm which is very difficult. I also have a drivers appointment on monday at 10pm so I need to fix my sleeping schedule so any idea on how I can make myself sleep?

Does sleeping a 3 hour sleep during the day make my baby sleep less during the night?
Q. My baby boy is 3 months old, and usually has 45 minute sleeps during the day. Lately, his evening nap has turned into 2.5-3 hours. Is this going to affect his nighttime sleep in anyway. He is a breastfed baby.We usually wake up 2-3 times a night.

A. getting up 2-3 times in the night- totally normal, mine was to bed at 7, up at 12 then up at 3 until about 5 months, now he only gets up at 3 and I'm pretty excited about that! I know that breast milk is metabolized faster than formula so physiologically they NEED to eat through the night- not their fault- tiny tummies. Having said that I was given advice by a nurse not to let baby sleep more than 2 hours in the day to avoid day-night confusion. Good luck.

A. sleeping meds make sure you don't nap at all during the day if you buy a white noise box or just run a box fan in your room it takes away a lot of other noise don't worry at all about anything !! i used to worry way too much and when i thought about everything before i went to bed and reminded myself of what i needed to do the next day i got to sleep a lot faster instead of worrying while i was laying in bed if you are a procrastinator do everything before bed and on time so you don't have to worry about that either drink warm tea before sleep

What is the best position to sleep in? Is there a "correct" way we as humans should sleep?
Q. I've always found myself wondering this. I sleep in the same position every night, and I find it difficult to sleep in any other. I sleep on my stomach. I want to compare and contrast between sleeping on stomach, back, or sides. Which is the best for our bodies so we won't have any strain in our backs or ribs. Also, Is there a proven* correct way we should sleep?

A. Its best to lie on your left side. your right lung has three lobes, the left one only has two. When you lay on your left side it allows the lobes on the right to fully expand.

How does the amount of sleep affect how tired you are during the day?
Q. I don't think the way I worded the question is too great, but I mean I usually sleep 4 maybe 4 1/2 hours on a school night and during school I'm tired and maybe can't concentrate for like 15 mins. When I sleep for 6 hours though, I can't stay awake and usually fall asleep... Once I didn't sleep at all and didn't fall asleep in class but I did feel really wierd and light. On weekends I sleep for like 10 hrs+ and I just feel heavy and lazy when I wake up. I wake up at 7:00am and sleep around 3 or 2:30am. Sometimes my eyes hurt in the morning... like they sting and I usually have to close my eyes during my shower. I wear contacts, but I don't sleep in them, if that has to do with anything. I know it isn't good to not get enough sleep, but I… [cont.]

A. 1. 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night - regardless of school night or weekend. 2. Get to sleep at the same time each night. 3. try to use your bedroom for sleeping only. Too much tv watching or studying in there can mess up your going to bed rituals. 4. Lay off sodas, etc about 3 to 4 hours before bed. 5. You may be experiencing sleep apnea. this is when you stop breathing in your sleep for a few seconds - but it can happen many times each night. If this is the case you will feel worn out when you wake up. 6. Get a regular excercise program going - just not right before you go to bed. I work nights and sleep days - have done this for 15 years - I try to follow all of the above, and have slept like a baby for most of that time.

How much sleep should a high schooler get?
Q. I try to get at the least 9 hours but am told I should at least get 10. I have a tendency to sleep late and probably average 7 to 8 hours a school night of sleep. When I wake up I tell my sleep I will sleep early since I am so tired but that never happens. So how much sleep should a highschooler get? I always seem tired throughout the day and I hate it but don't want to sleep soo early either.

How do you get a baby to sleep earlier?
Q. My baby sleeps about 12 or 1 AM and if he does sleep a little earlier he will end up waking up an hour later and not sleeping again. I would really like him to sleep earlier and sleep through the night. He is 8 months old. Any ideas?
Asked by joe - Mon Aug 13 17:06:36 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Put him to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until you get him to the time you WANT him to go to bed. Not all kids sleep through the night. My 7-month-old does, but my 4-year-old never has. It's a very individual thing. I don't believe in Cry It Out (CIO). When your child cries, you should take care of him, or at the very least, comfort him until he goes back to sleep. Otherwise, he will grow up thinking that his needs will not be met and that no one cares if he cries. Also, if your baby has a wet diaper, it's better to change it than to make him cry and suffer in a wet diaper until morning. Yuk.

How many hours a day does a dog sleep and when do they accumulate said sleep?
Q. I have been awake for seventy two hours straight and my dogs spend the night in the room with me. They lay down and appear to be sleeping for no more than 10 minutes then get up, walk around, lay back down with their eyes open for a while, get up, walk around, eyes open, lay down, finally appear to be sleeping again. They do this during the day as well. They never seem to actually sleep. So WHEN do they sleep and how many hours a day do they sleep?

How much does your baby sleep during the day?
Q. My daughter is now 5 months old and she generally takes about 2-3 naps during the day, totalling 3-4 hours in all. I've noticed that sometimes at night she won't want to go to bed if she has slept more than usual during the day. I realize that all babies differ as far as how much sleep they need and whether that interferes with their nighttime sleep but I am just curious how many naps your baby takes and for how long. My 15 month old takes one 2-3 hour nap per day and has no problem sleeping at night. Thanks in advance.

A. According to the Mt Sinai Medical Center Sleep Study Treatment Program the bed should be used for 2 things only: Sleep & Intimacy. They even suggest taking your TV out of your bedroom. If the only thing you associate with your bed is sleep & intimacy, instead of TV, work, computer, talking on phone, etc.; in your mind it makes the bed a place of too much stimulation...a contradiction to sleeping. Sweet Dreams=)

How long must you sleep to get accurate results on a sleep test?
Q. I have been diagnosed with a deviated septum, and am undergoing surgery for it at the beginning of next year. I informed my doctor about these headaches I've been having in the morning. Well they're a little different from headaches, more like pressure above my eyes. I find the longer I sleep the worse they become. Also after sleeping about six hours I find it impossible to go back to bed without waking up at least every hour. I had a sleep test done, but according to that I didn't have sleep apnea. I'm wondering if the results could be wrong seeing as I was only able to sleep for about half an hour and they must not have been able to collect enough data. Could this pressure above my eyes be a sign of sleep apnea, or could they… [cont.]

A. ( had two sleep apnea tests performed. The technicians need at least 6 hours of your sleeping to get accurate results. Pressure above your eyes is not a sign of sleep apnea. The pressure above your eyes could be caused by allergies or a (deep) sinus infection (I have also had this pressure..it is only slightly painful whenI I strongly pressed the area right below the eyebrow) . I also had a deviated septum and had it fixed years ago. They fixed the septum, also took out a blockage of tissue and bone. It made a world of difference. I still get the pressure just above the eyes when my deep sinuses get infected (a fixed septum doesn't make a person immune to sinus infections, only perhaps less likely to get one).

How many hours of sleep should the average person get per night?
Q. Do any of you have any information on the sleep stages? Or know anything about the study of sleep? I'm very interested in the effects of sleep at different times of day/night and different lengths.

How much sleep does an average person need for proper health maintenance?
Q. I know that recieving 9.5 hours of sleep restores a person immune system, and at least 8 hours guide in effective anabolic activity as well as neurohormone effectiveness. But i find myself quite educated in general biology and medicine, but unfortunately do not know that much about sleep. Any accurate information would be helpful, please get into as much detail as possible in your own words, do not copy adn waste from wikipedia or other sources, as i can do that myself. Thanks.

A. If I am lucky I sleep 4 hours a night. I always have. If I have a "bad" night, I sleep 1 or 2 hours, and then have to have a nap of 1 or 2 hours in the day. Sleeping pills, barbituates, and narcotics have no effect. It used to bother me, but I have adjusted to this sleeping pattern. I never get cranky anymore, and I have never been lethargic from lack of sleep. My thought patterns and cognative abilities have never been compromised from a lack of sleep. I have never been formally diagnosed, but I know I am an insomniac. I think it is an overactive brain that is the cause. (Analyze this, analyze that, ect.) It should be noted that I can also stay up for literally hours at a time with no caffiene or other stimulant drugs. It has… [cont.]

How do I get our new puppy to sleep in his crate?
Q. My fiance and I just got a new puppy, Rott/Chow Mix, and we have had it for two days. Last night it just would not sleep in his crate. The first night he whined for about 15 minutes and then slept through the night, but last night he whined for 2 hours (11:30-1:30) until I went down and brought him into our bed, then he slept all night. He is not alone, we have two other dogs as well. Infact Lorelei, our black lab, sleeps in a crate right next to Mack (the new pup), so they are close together. And Narah the oldest has free run of the house. We've raised both Lorelei and Narah from 6wk pups, so we did the right thing from the start, but this pup is almost 4 mths. My thought is the owner that we got them from said that Mack was her baby… [cont.]
