A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος, phóbos, fear or morbid fear), is an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, or people. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.

Phobias (in the clinical meaning of the term) are the most common form of anxiety disorders. An American study by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) found that between 8.7% and 18.1% of Americans suffer from phobias. Broken down by age and gender, the study found that phobias were the most common mental illness among women in all age groups and the second most common illness among men older than 25.

How many people have phobias about germs and bacteria in their home?
Q. I use bleach in my kitchen and bathrooms. I have chlorine tablets in my toilet tanks. I clean my frige completely once a month with bleach and soap. These are not phobias or are they? A person who wants to be clean in their home should be praised. I'm so clean that me and my wife bathe before sex otherwise we won't be having sex. Don;t invite me to dinner at your house because you might have bacteria in your kitchen and you might be unclean and I could get sick. I won't go out to eat at restaraunts becasue people spit in the food and they have dirty hands...I basically don't trust any restaraunt. I hate eating fast food too. Health Inspections are done, but that doesn;t mean diddly squat when it comes to dirty employees that don't… [cont.]

A. How about the places that harbor germs like the doorknobs, the lever for flushing the toilet, pillows, computer keyboard, mouse, screen, desk, the soap dishes for the bathroom sink...I am sorry but germs are all around us and accept the situation is a healthy start. If you quiz restaurant owners they usually do not eat anywhere else but at the restaurant or their home...maybe one other place. I feel that you are being cautious

A. Scared Nation ~ By: Derek Joseph Levendusky But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!" (Isaiah 43:1) The first emotion that man showed after the fall in the garden was fear. God came looking for Adam, and called out, Where are you, Adam? Adam answered, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid (Genesis 3:9-10). Here we are in the beginning of the Old Testament, at the first dawn of life, and man is already struggling with fear. Likewise, in the early morning light of the New Testament, Peter shows us that nothing has changed. Fear still has humanity in a stranglehold. Peter has his first encounter… [cont.]
