It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Some psychologists such as John B. Watson, Robert Plutchik, and Paul Ekman have suggested that fear is one of a small set of basic or innate emotions. This set also includes such emotions as joy, sadness, and anger. Fear should be distinguished from the related emotional state of anxiety, which typically occurs without any external threat. Additionally, fear is related to the specific behaviors of escape and avoidance, whereas anxiety is the result of threats which are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. Worth noting is that fear always relates to future events, such as worsening of a situation, or continuation of a situation that is unacceptable. From Wikipedia under the

President Roosevelt told his radio audience that the only thing to fear is fear itself. If so, how does one become unafraid? Asked by nauyxdyk - Sun May 10 16:29:23 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. No. It is the fear that investors have of losing their money that is the major problem, Spending for business expansion and starting new companies varies over the business cycle far more than for personal consumption. Much of business investment depends on borrowed money which is why the credit crunch caused by the financial crisis is so devastating for the economy. Answered by meg - Sun May 10 17:37:20 2009 Is the fear of rollercoasters really an underlying fear of having no control?
Q. I think I heard this on 'Final Destination 3'. Yes, I know that not everything you hear on TV is correct. Is the reason many people are afraid of rollercoasters is because they fear having no control? Do you think a person who was raised without much control, where they could make the rules and do as they wish, without parental figures that cared would be more afraid to go on a rollercoaster if this is the case? Asked by C - Thu Jul 10 01:27:33 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am no psychologist, but it makes sense. I suppose there can be more than one reason though. Like no control, or fear of speed, or fear of heights.
